Ingredient Highlight - Retinol
If you’re into skincare, you probably love a skincare buzz word. One of the newest and most powerful ingredients on the block retinol, has sent the beauty world into a bit of a spin. It’s praised for its anti-aging power, ability to smooth fine lines, reduce pore size and improve the overall health of skin cells (wow what a show-off!)
Retinol is a form of Vitamin A so while its extremely effective, it can be potent so learning how to us it and the right form of retinol is important.
If you wanted to dip your toe into the world of retinol for the face or if you have a more sensitive skin type, it might be worth while trying out a less intense form with a lower percentage of active ingredients. Layering a retinol on top of a moisturiser can also help you ease into using a product with full strength.
If you’re a long time user of chemical exfoliants and your skin is familiar with the strength of active products you might be okay to use a product with a higher retinol concentration. To ensure your skin doesn’t react badly make sure you invest in a high quality product, use only a small amount and only incorporate it into your routine one to three times a week.
It’s best to use your retinol product at night and try to make sure you are only using one product with retinol as an ingredient. It is also very important to use sunscreen while you have retinol as part of your morning routine because it will make your skin more sensitive to UVA & UVB rays.
So why are we talking about retinol? Well we have recently introduced retinol into two of our James Cosmetics eye-masks Prepare and Restore. In eye products the retinol will smooth fine lines and brighten the area… what a winner!
