The Ingredient Powerhouse You Need Now!
There are only a couple of things in this world I am sure of and one of them is that Vitamin C is one of the most useful and powerful ingredients on the skincare market.
One of the few ingredients out there with heavy scientific backing, vitamin C benefits the skin in three very important ways.
It’s an important anti-aging ingredient!
Vitamin C is well known to improve collagen synthesis within the skin. Collagen is one of the most important building blocks to healthy, juicy looking skin. Think of it like ‘skin scaffolding’ that provides support and strength to the skin. After the age of 20, we loose 1% of our collagen reserves, so it's important we boost collagen synthesis to avoid the development of wrinkles and sagging. Because of vitamin C’s effect on collagen it is hailed as one of the best anti-aging ingredients you can buy!
It is a powerful antioxidant!
Anti-oxidants are extremely important in slowing down oxidative damaged caused by free radicals. Now, this is going to get a little scientific but bare with me! On a molecular level, anti-oxidants have extra electrons they can ‘donate’ to free radicals without becoming free radicals themselves! Like a knight in shining armour the anti-oxidants run around giving their extra electrons to free radicals, neutralising them and preventing them from causing any further damage!
Ever left an apple out for a bit too long? Only to return to find it has browned and become slightly less APPLEing (sorry… had to) Yep… you guessed it, that’s a perfect example of free radical damage!
It has the ability to brighten the skin
Anything from improved skin tone to stubborn acne scarring and pigmentation can be improved by Vitamin C because of it’s ability to break up stubborn ‘clumps’ of melanin. If you are dealing with sun-induced hyperpigmentation, post breakout scarring or you want to even out your skin tone, Vitamin C needs to be apart of your skincare routine!
Vitamin C is a wonderful, powerful and impressive skincare ingredient that makes a great addition to skincare routines. We love Vitamin C so much we made a whole face mask using it!
